I’m not big on worksheets, so we didn’t start with them. We began with these fold and read cards. They’re super easy to print and prepare, and they’re a great learning tool for kids to see how short vowel words become new words when you add an e.

This follow the path game is another quick way to review short u and u-e words.

After he returned home from morning kindergarten, I showed my Five the stack of ten worksheets. I told him he could choose five to do. He started with the Read & Stamp page. He was so proud to see his finished work! (I’ve had these alphabet stamps since my teaching days… love ’em!)

Next, he chose the correct spelling of each short u or u-e word.

Some of the pictures for u-e words are tough (such as dune, fuse, and mute), but learning them is a great vocabulary builder.

      We’re so glad your students are enjoying the resources, Anita! Thank you for your feedback, but because there is such a limited number of e-e words and they aren’t easily represented by pictures, we don’t have plans to add that vowel pattern.
