Richard was born in Richmond, Indiana and was raised near Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Wilmington College where he played basketball, ran track and was a member of TDK Fraternity. Richard then attended the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and earned a D.M.D. degree and orthodontic residency, M.S.D.
